Have you ever found a treasure? Well, I have found one.
A few months ago my father and I were wandering in my grandfather’s garden. My father suddenly noticed something round on the ground, under a bush.
My father picked it up and we examined it very carefully. First I thought it was a rock! My father told me if we clean it with an acid we will be able to see it better, because it was very rusty. After that we brought it home. My mother and I cleaned it with vinegar. After cleaning it a few times, most of the rust came off.
It was an old coin!

But it was so old, we couldn’t read anything on it. But we had a trick. We placed it under a paper and then traced it. After tracing we could read only three words clearly.

My mother searched for one cent coins used in Sri Lanka in 1943, on the internet. Then we found the exact coin!

It was a coin used during the British period! It must have belonged to my great grandfather.
I wonder whether there is more treasure in the garden… Next time I will check the ground really carefully. I will definitely visit my grandparents’ place again when this pandemic is over.
