My birthday party
July 25 is my birthday. Every year I have a grand birthday party, but this year it was a simple but unforgettable party. Early morning I woke up and had a wash to go to school. I got many calls to wish me, from my grandparents and cousins. Then I came to my study room to get my school bag. I was so surprised! There was a cake and a gift on the table. My brothers, mother and father all sang the ‘Happy Birthday’ song and I blew the candle making a wish. I cut the cake and opened my gift. In my gift there was a chess board, dress, pencil, eraser and a card from my brother. He had written a poem for me.
Then I went to school and all the children wished me. After I came back from school the surprise wasn’t over. There was a Ben10 bike gifted by my grandfather. I had my favourite lunch cooked by my mother. In the evening we watched ‘Lion King’. The movie was great. We went out for dinner and then we came home. It was a great birthday party.

Preparing for term tests
Every day I go through my school work. Then I write the summary of each lesson in a separate book. I read the school text books after coming home from school. For the subject Maths, I work sums several times. For the subject Science, I do experiments and self study. For History, I search for more information from the internet and other books. I do past papers for all the subjects. For English, I do grammar exercises, reading English books, watching English programmes and writing essays. For Sinhala I do the same as for English.
When the timetable is given I study according to that. The day before the subject I study only from a summary book. My father and mother take the books and ask questions from them. Sometimes my friends come over and we discuss the questions. That helps us all to remember the things in the books. It is very interesting to study with friends as we all can share our knowledge.

A school activity I enjoyed
As a student, the favourite school activity I enjoyed was the Science Exhibition we held last month. As we all were informed earlier, we did not have much interest to make the exhibits. When the days passed quickly, we did not even feel that the Science Exhibition was near. The students were called to the science lab and we were given ideas for the exhibits to be made. We were told about making volcanoes, banners about different extinct animals and of making new technological inventions.
On my way home I thought of making something that is new and to be the first to make it. So I went home and expressed my ideas with my father who said that he would make a plan to make the exhibit. So we started collecting things that are thrown away and started making my little robot. At last the Science Day arrived. All the children presented many exhibits but my little robot was the most beautiful. One that the Minister of Education was invited as the chief guest and he appreciated all the creative exhibits personally. It was very special this time as they were choosing the best exhibit in the exhibition. I thought that there were many talented students in school and it would be a challenge to be chosen the winner. Finally the time arrived to choose the winner. What a surprise, everyone clapped for me and I was even called on to the stage. It was the happiest moment in my life. That day was the school activity I enjoyed the most.
