My favourite subject
Many girls in class might not feel the same way I do but Science is my favourite subject or at least one of them. Science is a wonderful and amazing subject that helps us to explain the world.
From learning Science, I can get many experiences and knowledge. When my teacher takes me to the science lab in school, I get super excited. In the lab my teacher does experiments and shows us how one reaction can create another reaction. If we don’t do the experiment properly we might get the wrong reaction. It makes me more and more curious to learn new ideas and experiment with them with my teacher.
Science is an interesting subject too. It helps me to develop my ability to understand deeper and answer all my questions. Science leaves a mystery for me but also explains at the same everything in great detail.

An interesting train journey
Shimla is a beautiful hill station but what is even more amazing is the train journey from Kalka to Shimla via the special Toy Train that runs on this route. The route it takes is just mesmerizing. A trip to Shimla is incomplete if one doesn’t travel by this train. So, we booked our tickets in advance to experience this train journey.
We went to Shimla last year during the autumn break. We travelled by bus to Kalka and from there we took the Toy Train to Shimla. I thought it would be like a usual train journey with some mountains and valleys in view but it actually turned out to be super thrilling and exciting. We were amid nature all through our journey. We didn’t just get the view of the mountains, valleys and greenery around, we felt like being a part of it as the train went through the mountains giving the true feel of nature.
It was a 5 – 6 hour journey and I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. The route was full of tunnels and bridges that added to the experience. There were more than 100 tunnels and around 800 bridges on the route. I sat by the window all through the journey to take in the outside view. We also stepped out of the train as it stopped at a station on the way. It was a small station and the train stopped for just about 10 minutes.
I was accompanied by my parents and sister. They also enjoyed the trip as much as I did. We travelled by the same train on our way back too. That was indeed the best journey of my life. I loved being amid nature. This is the reason why I enjoyed it all the more. I really wish to go on this route again.

Harmony in the neighbourhood
My neighbourhood is very unique among all the other neighbourhoods I’ve known so far. Not boasting or anything but, there is such a close relationship among each other that one forgets that they are actually from a different caste or creed – and that’s really great as everybody in the neighbourhood knows everybody else and it’s like one giant family!
The problem with society these days is that everybody has got so interested in mobile phones that nobody takes the time to get to know the people who live around them.
As I said earlier, people in my neighbourhood are of different castes, races and religions but they behave so friendly and co-operatively that no one really cares as to which caste, race or religion they belong to. All the houses in our neighbourhood are built close to one another and there are Muslims, Sinhalese, and Malay families present. Despite the number of religious conflicts that arise in the country, we never discriminate or criticize each other on the basis of race or religion as we all are one and prefer living together in harmony.
Unlike any other society, people in my society are well-disciplined and tender-hearted. Wherever you turn, you will find people relieving others from debts, smiling at each other, dealing honestly among each other, respecting others’ rights, maintaining close relationships with each other, showing sympathy and love towards the aged, fulfilling promises, standing for each other etc. Engaging in shramadana activities together with neighbours has always been fun and enjoyable.
With such a kind of unity existing among ourselves, we have never come across any problematic situation in our harmonious neighbourhood as there are many helping hands awaiting us nearby. We always stand and care for each other and thus have created a strong bond among ourselves!
